Don’t Worry Darling was released on September 23, 2023, is rated R, and was directed by Olivia Wilde. The movie is 2 hours and 3 minutes long. The genre of this movie is Mystery & Thriller. It has many good plot points and mysteries, though many people have said that the movie feels empty and has many predictable twists and turns. The movie is based on the book Don’t Worry Darling by Carey Van Dyke. Though the movie itself isn’t everyone’s favorite, the thing that captivated everyone was the drama surrounding this movie. ​​
The movie follows Alice Chambers, played by Florence Pugh, and her life with her husband Jack Chambers, played by Harry Styles. These two live in a town called Victory located in California in the 50’s, this town is named after the reason they’re there. This town is full of men and women, where the men work for the Victory Project, and the women clean, cook, and shop all day. This project is led by a man named Frank, whom people rarely see, and he has certain rules for this town: Don’t talk about the victory project, and women must stay in town but they can shop as much as they want. It’s paradise, until Alice starts to notice things that don’t make sense. Like how the people in the town may be more alike than they realize. As the movie progresses you can see Alice’s slow descent into madness, as she uncovers the secrets of this town and the people in it.

Now when it comes to the making of this movie, there were plenty of things that didn’t go according to plan and plenty of drama that arose. First off the male lead in this film was originally Shia LaBeouf, but he and Olivia got into many fights and he left the movie. While Olivia denied this for a while, a video was released with her trying to get him to come back to the movie. So then Olivia cast Harry Styles as the male lead. But Harry and Olivia had been rumored to have been dating during this time. It’s said that Harry and Olivia spent so much time together that Olivia had been lacking in her directorial duties, so Florence Pugh herself had to step up for some time. If this wasn’t enough, when the film was premiering around the world, more drama arose.

As Florence wasn’t promoting the movie at all on social media, and Harry and Olivia had been rumored to have broken up. Also when the film premiered at the Venice Film Festival Florence Pugh wasn’t there it is said that she was filming Dune 2 that day, though no one is sure if that’s true. Then they had a Don’t Worry Darling Panel and the entire cast showed up together in a speedboat, except for Harry, Olivia and Florence. They all showed up separately on their own speed boats. So it’s said that those three have the most drama. There were also rumors that Chris Pine and Harry Styles didn’t like each other either.

Overall, I don’t think this movie wasn’t as bad as people have said, and doesn’t deserve all of the hate it got. Though I also don’t think it was as good as it led people to believe, as it was a highly anticipated movie. I think the cast did good with what they had. I think people should watch this movie for themselves and form their opinion.
