Nostalgia Hits with Tiana

My Babysitter’s A Vampire

Tiana Pickett-Hanson, Staff Writer

Nostalgia hits is where I’ll write about old shows and movies that were once beloved, but have been forgotten over the years. Bringing you nostalgic memories as you read about some of your old favorites from your childhood, or introducing you to older movies that you may have never even heard of before. For the first Nostalgia Hit, I’ll be writing about: My Babysitter’s A Vampire.

My Babysitter’s A Vampire, the movie and show, were key parts of my childhood, and I know that I can’t be the only one who loved this show. On October 9, 2010 the movie My Babysitter’s A Vampire aired on a Canadian TV channel called Teletoon, directed by Bruce McDonald, and it’s rated TV-PG. This movie ended up being picked up by Disney and premiered in the U.S. on Disney Channel June 10,2011. The movie was a success, and on June 27, 2011 a show based on the movie was released on Disney Channel. After running for two seasons and 26 total episodes, the show wasn’t picked up for a third season. Leaving fans with a big cliffhanger, it is still unknown why the show was canceled.

The movie follows two friends named Ethan and Benny, who are nerds. Ethan is having Benny over, but he’s also supposed to be watching his sister Jane. When Ethans parents get home and find Jane outside, they’re mad. Ethans parents tell him that from now on Jane and him will have a babysitter, which is humiliating for Ethan. The next day at school, Ethan is hoping word won’t spread that he needs a babysitter, while Benny can’t help but wonder which girl will be at Ethan’s house every Friday night for the foreseeable future. At lunch, while Ethan and Benny are talking to their even nerdier friend Rory, Ethan accidentally hits a girl with his tray. The girl he hits is Sarah, the girlfriend of the school’s infamous bad boy Jesse. Sarah goes and sits by her friend Erica, a big Dusk fan (Dusk being this universes version of Twilight), to exclaim to Erica how much of a dork Ethan is.

Throughout the movie, it’s hinted at the fact that the drama club, who’s leader is Jesse, are vampires. It’s revealed that Jesse bit Sarah making her a fledgling, or half vampire. Later when Sarah tries to save Erica, she and Jesse get into a fight and Sarah ends up being thrown to Ethan’s house. When she gets there she tells Ethan and Benny that she needs to go, but Ethan sees her half reflection in the mirror and tells Benny that she might be a vampire. Throughout the rest of the movie Sarah, Ethan, and Benny, with the help of Rory and Erica, try to find out Jesse’s sinister plan, and find a way to stop it. The show follows that group’s life after the movie, and the things that they get into.

The cast in this movie/show is amazing and brings this movie to life. The main cast consists of: Matthew Knight, who played Ethan, Vanessa Morgan, who played Sarah, Atticus Mitchel, who played Benny, Cameron Kennedy, who played Rory, and Kate Todd, who played Erica. All of these actors/actresses portrayed these characters very well, and brought many fans joy. They are all very talented.

Finally, I hope that more people watch this movie and series, or that you remembered having watched it before. If you want to watch it now the movie and entire series can be found on Youtube. I love this series and I loved writing about it. I would definitely recommend this, and hope you enjoy this series.
