FFA News: Floriculture

The Fillmore Central FFA’s floriculture team took 11th place out of 17 teams at the recent floriculture event. The event took place on Thursday, March 21st, at the Harmony community center.  The floriculture team here at Fillmore Central consists of Angel Apenhorst, Layla Round, Lydia Penhollow, Anna Gartner, and Maggie Dempewolf.

The floriculture team is judged on their general knowledge of plants and on how well they can identify various plants/tools used when working with plants. Contestants are given a list of over 100 different plants to choose from. Some examples of these plants include African violet, peace lily, Snapdragon, and sunflower. Some of the tools included were floral foam, cadette, ribbon, and floral adhesive.

After identifying the plants and tools, contestants then must take two tests. One test was a test of general plant knowledge and the other was a test had problem solving questions related to floriculture.

This is just one of the many activities you can complete in by joining FFA. Whether you are on the floriculture or on another FFA team, fun is guarantee!
