Murderer in Fountain

On the night of March 24th, the sleepy little towns in the Fillmore County area were wide awake, high on alert because a murderer was on the loose.

Iowa authorities were seeking help from the public in finding two men who were wanted for a Christmas Day killing of a resident in the Fort Dodge area.

According to the Iowa Department of Public Safety, police had found the victim, 46-year-old Mr. Montreail Dungy unresponsive due to a gunshot wound on Christmas Day 2022 at the 1000 block of 10th Ave. SW at 3:23 A.M.

On March 22nd, police had arrest warrants issued out for 27-year-old Darwin Green from Fort Dodge for adding and abetting first-degree murder, and 31-year-old Lakendrick Mosley from Des Moines for first-degree murder. Green was described as 6’0″ and 199 pounds, and Mosley was described as 5 ‘9″ and 145 pounds.

Lakendrick Mosley was taken into custody early Friday evening, but that meant Darwin Green was still out there. Around 9 P.M. Friday night, the Sheriff’s office sent out a “shelter in place” order and asked all residents in the Fountain area to lock their doors and secure their vehicles.

The Fillmore County Sheriff’s office later reported in a Facebook post that they had received numerous calls of a person matching Green’s description—a Black man with dreadlocks—seen north of Preston along Highway 52.

The “shelter in place” order was lifted around 9:40 P.M., but the sheriff’s office still asked for people to report any sort of suspicious activity while the search continued.

A witness reported to have seen him walk into a resident’s garage north of Preston. Police quickly arrived on the scene, and Darwin Green was then apprehended shortly before 8 A.M. Saturday, March 25th, without incident. Green is now being held in the Fillmore County Jail waiting on local charges along with his warrant out of Webster County, Iowa.

The Fillmore County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank the public for sharing information, being vigilant, and aiding the safe and successful apprehension of the suspect.
