Show of the Month
You
April 21, 2023
For March’s show of the month I’ve chosen You, which was created by Greg Berlanti and Sera Gamble and is rated TV-MA. The show was first released in 2018, but the 4th season was released in two parts with the second part being released March 9th, 2023. This show follows a man named Joe Goldberg, who works as a bookstore manager. Joe has some weird obsessions/fantasies, and when the show begins, you see that Joe is trying to get the woman of his dreams to fall in love with him. The exception, however, is that he goes about it in an interesting way. As love turns to lust, he turns obsessive by trying to isolate her from her friends and starting to control every aspect of her life. While also stalking her, you see Joe acting on his psychotic tendencies and goes deeper into his own obsessions.
When the show starts, Joe Goldberg has a crush on a woman who frequently visits his work. Joe’s crush develops deeper and becomes psychotic. As the series progresses, you see Joe delve deeper into psychosis and get worse and worse. You also see him meet many women and become infatuated with them. Joe is a very controlling person, and you see this interfere with his life as he also overthinks many things. I definitely think that the plot becomes better as the seasons go on, and the characters in the show are more developed.
The cast of this show is truly amazing. There are many talented people in this show. Some of the cast includes Dylan Arnold, Scott Speedman, Nicole Kang, Carmela Zumbado, Shalita Grant, Ed Speleers, Zach Cherry, Tilly Keeper, Jenna Ortega, Luca Padovan, Saffron Burrows, James Scully, Charlotte Ritchie, Elizabeth Lail, Ambyr Childers, and Victoria Pedretti. The star of the show is Penn Badgley; he is very talented in this show. It’s one of the best shows that Netflix has made, and I truly believe that it’s because of his performance in this show. He’s very good, and I would watch the show just to see his acting.
Overall, I would recommend this to people who like the horror genre and thrillers. It’s very creepy, but it also has a puzzle aspect because you see how these women try to escape. I think that this show is done very well and written very well. I would definitely recommend people watching this show to see if you think you could do what the women in this show do.
