Hannah Kingsley: Best in Site!
Best in Site
April 27, 2023
On Thursday, April 20th, the Fillmore Central’s solo small group choir and band got to leave school at 2:30 p.m. to ride to Rushford-Peterson High School for Section 1A Small Group Contest. Everyone did so well that night, though especially Hannah Kingsley!
Hannah joined choir in the 7th grade and has been taking part of solo small group since the beginning. On Thursday at 5:30 p.m., Hannah sang for judge David Nordil in Center 3. The judge selected Hannah’s as the best out of seven other schools in the same center as her.
Hannah picked out the song for her solo in December and started practicing right away. Her song of choice was “Che faro senza euridice” by Christoph Van Gluck, which tells the story of a man named Orfeo whose wife has died and gone to the underworld. Orfeo goes to Apollo and pleads to get her back. Apollo eventually agrees under the condition that Orfeo must never look at her, otherwise he will lose her forever. When he rescues Euridice, she continuously begs him for one glance, and when he gives in, she dies. The song is him telling his tale; then, at the end of the opera, the two lovers are reunited.
Hannah Kingsley will receive an award for Best in Site from the section. Great job, Hannah!
