MRS. BROWN
Mrs. Brown became a staff member at Fillmore Central six years ago as the new Ag teacher and FFA advisor. Before she started as a teacher, Mrs. Brown resided in South Dakota where she also attended South Dakota State University. After college, she moved to Minnesota to be closer with her husband. She then worked in the agriculture industry for three years before she made the final decision to become an educator. She explained the significance of this decision was based on what was best for her family. Today, she currently teaches Ag 7, Ag 8, Intro to AFNR (9th), Food Science 9, Intro to Welding, and Metal Fabrication. Besides these Ag based courses, Mrs. Brown is the Fillmore Central FFA advisor and junior high track coach.
Besides her successful career as a teacher, her commitment to FFA is nothing less than superb. Her outstanding career as an FFA advisor even guaranteed her the “Cultivating Future Leaders” award from the University of Minnesota. Despite her own successes, Mrs. Brown considers the accomplishments conducted by her students to be her most valued. It was this year’s State FFA Convention where FFA students placed sixth in livestock evaluation as well with the horse team. There was also a student who placed second place in dairy evaluation. Beyond these current attainments, the dairy judging team took first place in the All-American Dairy Show in 2019. Mrs. Brown has thoroughly expressed how proud she is of her FFA students.
Beyond Mrs. Brown’s rewarding career, she considers the time with her family her most esteemed; it consists of everything from camping to working on the farm.
Concluding her interview, Mrs. Brown mentioned that her favorite aspect about Fillmore Central is, “the small town feel and the close-knit community.” In addition to the previous statement, Mrs. Brown also mentioned how the students at Fillmore Central “take pride” (Mrs. Brown) in their involvements. Mrs. Brown firmly believes in the idea of having a well-rounded education. Despite this, she also expressed some advice to her students: “Know when you have too much on your plate, and it’s ok to say no to things when it’s not in your best interests.” Fillmore Central High School is happy to have Mrs. Brown as a member of its staff.
