Alluring, ornate, and often outrageous, The Met Gala is the event of the year. Celebrities and influencers of all kinds are invited to celebrate the biggest day in fashion.

The Met Gala is an annual fundraiser hosted by and dedicated to the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute in New York City. It is during this event where celebrities are invited to attend a viewing of a themed exhibition organized by the Museum. Following the observation of this special exhibition, attendees gather to have a formal dinner party. Once this formal event proceeds to conclude, guests then arrive at a Met Gala After Party to officially conclude the night’s festivities.

What makes this exclusive function an evening of popularity is the fashion sported by the attendees of the celebration. It is for this reason that the Met Gala is the biggest day for the fashion industry. Brands such as Valentino, Channel, Dior, Versace and many more, all fight to flaunt their designs on the most famed celebrities.

What typically inspires the night’s attire, is an established theme. This theme always correlates with the exhibition curated by Metropolitan Museum. The theme for this year’s Met Gala was “In Honor of Karl”. This theme explores the life and career of the departed Karl Lagerfeld–A well acclaimed German Fashion designer, whose creative legacy encompasses much of what is associated with modern Chanel. The Costume Institute’s curator, Wendy Yu, and British curator Andrew Bolton, work together to examine the distinguished work of Karl Lagerfeld.

As an homage to Lagerfeld’s success, this year’s Met Gala attendees were given the following dress code, to pay tribute to the designer. Many impeccable looks were displayed on the first of May, 2023. Between all outfits showcased, only one was dubbed the Best Dressed. Nigerian singer-songwriter, Tems stole the red carpet with Robert Wun’s latest design. Although the dress was not designed by Karl Lagerfeld, the contrasting color palette of black and white is a signature staple of Lagerfeld’s work at Channel.

Beyond Tem’s jaw dropping look, other celebrities managed to steal the spotlight. Some include: Doja Cat, Lil Nas X, Anne Hathaway, Janelle Monea, Florence Pugh and so many more. This is without a doubt, another Met Gala to remember.
