Pressure Put on Young People

Pressure Put on Young People

In today’s world, there is too much pressure put on young people. There are many different reasons that cause teens and young adults to feel pressured. I feel that highschoolers especially feel stressed because of the amount of pressure that is put on them.

First, there is pressure revolving around school. There is pressure to show up to school everyday and spend over seven long hours there. Most days I feel only half of my day at school is full of learning new information, and the other half is unproductive. There is pressure to get good grades and excel in all classes. Getting good grades requires studying, which takes time that is not always available.

A second form of pressure felt by many students is to do well in sports and participate in other activities. Practices, meets, and games take up time everyday that takes time away from other things. Trying to balance everything from getting good grades and sports to being involved in extracurricular activities and maintaining good relationships with family and friends can be difficult. There is only so much time in a day, and trying to find a good way to balance everything is hard.

The main form of stress and pressure felt by highschoolers is the anticipation future. High schoolers are expected to know what they want to do with their life at a very young age. I personally have felt the stress of trying to figure out what I want to do for the rest of my life when I’m not even an adult. When I was younger, I hated being asked what I wanted to do after high school because I truly didn’t know. Not knowing the answer to that question made me feel pressured to have to figure it out as soon as possible.

Sometimes the pressure and stress that teens experience is unavoidable. Experiencing stress and pressure can be a good thing because it teaches teens to learn how to cope with the stress and how to still do well even under pressure. We are fortunate enough to live in a country where you get to choose your own career path, and if you end up in a career that’s not for you, you can go back to college and find a career that you enjoy and are passionate about. Next time you get stressed about your future, just remember that nothing in life is certain, and just because you chose something now doesn’t mean you can’t change it in the future.
