Broadcasting from Studio 8H at Rockefeller Center, Saturday Night Live, or SNL, has become a famous and regular show that many people have heard of. This 90-minute comedy sketch show was created by comedy writer, Lorne Michaels. The show is chock-full of different celebrities and has grown quite a reputation since debuting on October 11, 1975.
Saturday Night Live includes a different musical act and a variety of guest hosts each week. A good amount of the celebrities even come back and are a part of multiple episodes. The show has made a long list of catchphrases and has shown many famous characters. The show pushes the edge with its continually humorous sketches of politics and American culture. It has helped launch a lot of people’s careers and has made them who they are today. A few of the show’s sketches, like The Blues Brothers and Wayne’s World, have even been made into films. Before NBC purchased the naming rights in 1977, SNL had been known as NBC’s Saturday Night. Even today SNL continues to be a very popular and well known show that’s just a barrel of laughs and fun.
