Holiday Craft Ideas

Holiday Craft Ideas

The holidays are a time to spend with family and friends. Sometimes we get bored of watching the same old movies and having the same old conversations. I have a few ideas to spice up your holiday season by doing some crafts with your family. These crafts are simple and easy to do. You can find most of the materials at your local craft store or you might even have these at home.

Garlands

Garlands are a great way to decorate your home with your own creations. You can use any ribbon and food of your choice. Some common materials are citrus, popcorn, pinecones, pasta, and cranberries. You will need a needle and strong thread or fishing line.

  • Thread the needle with the thread, and string on your material of choice.
  • To dehydrate citrus, slice it thin, and put it in the oven on its lowest heat. Place the citrus on a wire rack on a baking sheet or parchment paper. Cook for 3 – 4 hours flipping every 30 minutes.

Popsicle Stick Wreath

  • Get 100 different sized popsicle sticks, and paint them different shades of green.
  • Glue the sticks onto a foam wreath, making sure to alternate size and color.
  • Tie and glue a ribbon onto the wreath and all done!

Snowman Tea Light Ornaments

  • Cut out black and red construction paper and glue together to create a top hat.
  • Take your tea light and draw on the eyes and a mouth making the light look like a nose.
  • Put a glob of hot glue on the neck of the snowman, and rap a ribbon around it to look like a scarf.
  • Glue the top hat to the top of the snowman.
  • Behind the hat, loop a piece of ribbon and glue to the tea light.

Plastic Cup Ornaments

  • Grab some Polar brand plastic cups, and decorate them with colorful Sharpies.
  • Punch a hole on the cup before you bake them to make sure you can string them with ribbon.
  • Place onto a cookie sheet, and bake at 250 degrees until the cups are a flat disc. (Not all of them will be perfectly flat.)
  • Tie a ribbon through the hole.
  • Finished!
