What kind of Christmas songs do you like? As we’re into December, I think I can safely say that most people are starting to listen to their favorite Christmas tunes. I feel like there are several different genres of Christmas music.
- There are the slow, calm, religious songs like “O Holy Night,” “Silent Night,” “Little Drummer Boy,” “O Come All Ye Faithful,” and “Do You Hear What I Hear.”
- There are the classic originals that have a catchy tune and rhythmic melody like “Jingle Bell Rock,” “Rockin’ Around The Christmas Tree,” “Deck The Halls,” and “A Holly Jolly Christmas.”
- Then I think there are some people who like those fun songs from Christmas movies like “Frosty The Snowman,” “Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer,” “You’re A Mean One, Mr. Grinch,” “The Twelve Days Of Christmas,” “I Want A Hippopotamus,” and “Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer.”
- We also have the smooth, jazzy kind of songs like “Blue Christmas,” “White Christmas,” “It’s The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year,” “It’s Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas,” “Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas,” and “The Christmas Song.”
- Of course there are also the upbeat, popular songs like “Underneath The Tree,” “Last Christmas,” ” Santa Tell Me,” ” All I Want For Christmas,” ” Let It Snow,” and “Santa Claus Is Coming To Town.”
There are definitely a lot of songs I missed, but I tried to do just a brief review of what I thought were the most recognizable and popular Christmas songs in each category. There are many different genres, and people may put these and other Christmas songs into different categories depending on what style they like the song sung. Some people like all Christmas music and just mix and match, which is also totally fine. Whatever your preference, what kind of Christmas tunes do you listen to?
