Why Daylight Savings Time Should be Abolished

February 16, 2023
Whether to be for or against daylight savings time is an argument that has been debated for many years. But before I get to my opinion, I’ll explain what DST (daylight savings time) is. DST is the time between March and November when the U.S. (except Hawaii and Arizona) sets the clock forward 1 hour.
My take on this long-time argument is we should discontinue it. Over the years I have been annoyed with frequently changing my clock back and forth an hour. It disrupts my sleep schedule, and it feels like it takes a while to get used to. However, once I finally do get used to it, it goes back an hour. I have been late, I have been early, and it causes me more stress than I could ever need.
Speaking of stress, it has been recorded that shortly following DST there is a dramatic increase in slowed metabolism, weight gain, cluster headaches, and depression. As a result, cardiovascular disease increases by 24%, fatal car accidents increase 6% , strokes increase by 8%, and depressive episodes increase by 11%, according to nm.org. Due to all of this, it seems to me that an extra hour of sleep or daylight is not worth the issues and heartache that can be caused by daylight savings time.
